Fallow Meadow has been a buzz of activity

Fallow Meadow has been a buzz of activity

04 August 2024

What a whirlwind the last few months have been since our last blog update in December. From when we last wrote it has rained, (a LOT!) and it didn’t stop, we had hoped to re-start our preparation works in March but it was still raining, then April… still raining, May, you guessed it… still raining! The rain did however bring a rather welcome silver lining, perfect conditions to plant our baby trees, nearly two and a half thousand of them have been planted in the meadow creating a belt of young trees that will one day create an amazing habitat and woodland. So whilst we spent the winter getting soggy, our trees thrived giving them a great start in life.

June came around and the ground finally dried out and once again Fallow Meadow has been a buzz of activity as the work recommenced to finish creating our magical venue. Repairs to smooth our access track and path, clearing of drains, soil aeration all kept us occupied. And of course with all the rain, the grass grows almost by the minute. So Ian has been out mowing, again, and again, and a bit more! Now creating a lovely contrast between our lawn areas and the long meadow grass that sways gently in the wind.

We are really big on all things local, and that has included the materials we needed for our landscaping; local sandstone to repair our paths from a quarry one mile away, natural chestnut fencing from right here in the High Weald and hazel weave fencing from local coppices, just to name a few examples. Add to that our amazing team of local specialists many of whom live so close to Fallow Meadow. So although the rain held us back a couple of months, we have been blessed with a brilliant team around us to get us back on track.

Ian continues to fulfil the role of Fallow Meadow ‘Master Craftsman’ having taken tree trunk sized oak and honed them into our signature oak gateposts, and an amazing outdoor table and benches to name a couple of things to add to his long list of other beautifully made bespoke furniture for Fallow Meadow. Whilst also planting trees and latterly mowing grass - so. much. grass.

All the family however have had to pull together for some key moments, the full squad being deployed for tree planting and another rather special occasion… THE TIPIS ARRIVED!

A sunny weekend in June saw the expert team from Kata Tipis arrive to put up our three giant linked Tipis. Kata are the bees knees when it comes to Tipis and their team were so impressive to watch, full of enthusiasm to help we probably spent more time getting in their way. However, thanks to the professionalism of the team, the tipis were up within a couple of days and look incredible.

We are now all systems go to get everything ready for our Autumn Wedding Showcase, which will be our first opportunity to show the dressed venue to prospective couples.
